Nest Cam is the new wireless camera produced by Nest which is designed to give your home a boost in surveillance technology.
With Nest’s purchase of the security startup company Dropcam, we now get to see the fruits of the acquisition in the Nest Cam.
This wireless security camera is so small, you can put it in almost any area to monitor your home or office.
Just unveiled, you can pre-order this camera today for $199.99 with shipments starting as early next week.
The Nest Cam features:
- 1080p video recording
- 3 megapixel camera
- 130 degree diagonal field of view
- Built-in Tripod mount with magnetic base
- 8 built-in infrared LED for night vision
- Software updates over Wi-Fi
- clear Zoom
- Activity alerts
- Talk & Listen features
Setup, by the company is said to take only 60 seconds for this tiny device that only weighs 7.16 ounces.
You will need a Wi-Fi connection, free Nest Account and a iOS 8 or later, or an Android 4 or later mobile device.
The one downside to this camera that I can see, is there isn’t any native storage options.
You can subscribe to Nest Aware to get all you camera streams uploaded to the cloud for offsite storage.
This can get expensive when considering the options.
According to Nest’s website, a subscription will need these:
- At 720p, this requires 60GB of upload bandwidth per month
- At 1080p, this requires 140GB up upload bandwidth per month.
- 10-day Video History ($100/year)
- 30-day Video History ($300/year)
This might be a small price to pay for its security features for some, but for many of us, build in storage would be a better deal.
If you feel you can live with these options, then visit Nest for more details on who you can get one.
