After numerous teasers and leaks, the Xiaomi Mi 6X is finally official. The Mi 6X is the successor to the Mi 5X. The new Mi 6X, which should launch globally as the Xiaomi Mi A2, brings in a host of notable changes.
Make no mistake, the Xiaomi Mi 6X is not a flagship phone and in fact costs under $300. The highlights of the phone are the front 20MP Sony IMX376 Camera and the rear 12MP+20MP camera setup.
At the rear, the company is using the 12MP Sony IMX486 image sensor with f/1.75 aperture and is coupled with the same 20 MP Sony IMX376 sensor that we see on the front of the phone.
Xiaomi claims that the phone is a perfect package and should outperform phones like the iPhone X and Oppo R15 regarding overall performance. While I highly doubt that’s going to happen, I have to admit; this is one darn good phone for the money.
Let’s quickly go through the specification of the Xiaomi Mi 6X:
Specification of the Xiaomi Mi 6X:
- 5.99-inch Full HD+ Display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC clocked @2.2GHz
- 4GB/6GB RAM
- 64GB or 128GB Internal Storage
- 12MP+20MP Rear Camera
- 20MP Front Camera
- 4K Video Recording
- Android Oreo 8.1 with MIUI 0.5 skin
- 3010mAh Battery
- USB-C with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0
That’s quite a lot of hardware for the money if you ask me. The Mi 6x camera and excellent choice of SoC make this a really valuable smartphone.
The large 6-inch display and capable Snapdragon 660 SoC means that running most recent triple-A games on this phone will not be an issue. Even better, with 6GB of RAM, you know that apps will stay in the background for a more extended period. And storage is in abundance too. There’s a choice of either 64GB or 128GB storage which should be plenty for storing all the apps and games you will ever need.
Apart from the features mentioned above, the Mi 6X also gets Fingerprint scanner at the back, Face Unlock feature as well as AI integration.
Using the artificial intelligence, the Mi 6X camera can detect 12 different scenes providing better results. Here’s an image of the technology in action.
Also, the two lenses at the back can produce excellent phones, on par with most of the flagship phones of 2017. The manufacturer claims that it takes one of the best portraits shots on any phone.
The front 20MP camera is another highlight of the Mi 6X. The phone is said to produce excellent selfies even in low-light using the new Sony sensor. There’s also beauty mode which you can use where and when you need it.
The price of the Mi 6X for the base 4GB+64GB variant is CNY1,599 which roughly translates to around $250. The top of the line 6GB+ 128GB variant costs CNY 1,999 which translates to about $310.
The Xiaomi Mi 6X is available in 5 color options and has iPhone X like back. The phone will be available on April 27 in China through Online and Offline channels. You can also get one from Mi.com if you are living in China.
