The launch of the Galaxy Fold didn’t go as planned for Samsung. But that doesn’t mean the Korean smartphone giant is stopping with its innovative ideas. A new source suggests that the company is already working on a new foldable clamshell smartphone which is reported to launch as early as 2020.

The Samsung clamshell phone should look more or less like the Motorola’s rumored Razr foldable phone. Unlike the Galaxy Fold which opens like a book, the clamshell phone will fold up to reveal a 6.7-inch display. This is a design that is used in phones like the Samsung’s lesser-known flagship phone, the W2019.

DigiTimes; citing an unnamed supply chain sources confirms that the Clamshell foldable phone is real and should go into production in the first half of 2020.

Should You Be Excited About The Samsung Clamshell Foldable Phone?! Sure, this phone isn’t going to be for everyone, but if you are someone who likes trying new things out, you will love this new foldable phone from Samsung. Let’s hope that the company doesn’t price it at around $2000 as it did the Galaxy Fold.

Smartphones keep getting larger, and anyone who wishes to buy a smaller phone has limited options. With phones like the Samsung Clamshell foldable phone, that won’t have to be the case.

When folded, such a phone can be as small as an iPhone 5. When opened up, it will have a screen size similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S10. Sweet, isn’t it?

How Much Will The Clamshell Samsung Phone Cost?

It’s too early to accurately predict how much the new foldable phone from Samsung will cost. What I can be sure of is that it’s not going to be cheap. I am also convinced that the prices of foldable phones like this one won’t drop sharply within a year or so.

It was nice to see the price of phones with a hole-punch display, pop-up camera, an in-display fingerprint scanner drop fast. And it was even more awesome to see these technologies come in mid-range phones. But the foldable display technology is so new; it probably won’t be mainstream for a few years. Forget about this feature coming to budget Android phones!

I expect that Samsung will launch the clamshell design foldable phone for around $1000. At this price point, the phone will be accessible for a lot of people, and I will be line for one.

Why Is The Clamshell Foldable Phone So Important For Samsung?

One characteristic that sets Samsung apart from the rest of the competition is its investment in Research and Development. All the non-Chinese smartphone brands like LG and HTC don’t sell too well because they can’t keep up with the competition from the Chinese brands, not to mention their lack of an effective marketing strategy. Brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo can price their smartphones low without compromising on features and quality, thanks to mass production and a small investment in R&D.

If Samsung isn’t able to differentiate itself from these Chinese competitors, it will be tough for the brand to maintain its No.1 position as the top smartphone manufacturing brand.

Launching phones like the Galaxy Fold and the upcoming Clamshell foldable phone is essential for the Korean company. Unlike Apple, who has its operating system and application store (App Store), Samsung uses the same OS(Android) as every other smartphone brand and shares the same application store (Play Store). The only way to stay ahead of the crowd is to innovate.

Samsung sells its phones across the globe but more importantly, in the US. So, it has to comply with the strict US patent and copyright laws. We have seen in the past how much it can cost Samsung for not being able to do so.

Samsung will get the Galaxy clamshell phone right. I am excited about the phone and can’t wait for it to go into production. What about you? Let us know in the comments section down below.
