Facebook held its ninth developer conference, with one of its highlights being the Oculus Go. It is the company’s first standalone VR headset.
This nifty high-tech gadget doesn’t require you to have additional hardware like a PC or your phone. The VR can run all the apps and games using its hardware.
Facebook bought Oculus for $2.3 billion in March 2014 to make VR accessible to the masses. And with the Oculus Go VR, the company is looking to do just that!
The Go was announced back in October, and very little details were given at the time. But today, we have all the information about the headset. Here’s all you need to know about the Oculus Go.
The Go VR uses a custom optical design with a wide-field of view which significantly reduces glare while using it for an extensive period. It will cause less fatigue unlike most of the cheap VR headsets that are out there.
Talking about the display, the Go uses a fast-switch 5.5-inch 2560x1440p LCD display (1280 x 1440p per eye) that is specifically optimized for this headset.
Once you feel it, there’s no going back. You know it’s the future

To meet the processing needs, the VR headset comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC, the flagship SoC from Qualcomm two years ago. There’s also an option of either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage.
The VR also features integrated conceal speakers which direct the sound straight to your ears. The company claims that tiny speakers can produce rich and crisp sound. There you go! No need for special headphones for using this VR headset.
On a full charge, you can expect 2-2.5hrs of immersive VR experience. What’s unfortunate is that Go uses the old-standard Micro-USB port for charging.
What About Apps And Games?
The VR Go, unsurprisingly, comes loaded with a social media app, Facebook. The company has also partnered with Samsung to make all the Gear VR content available on the Go. What’s more? The controller that ships with the Go are identical to that of the Samsung Galaxy VR. So, your muscle memory doesn’t need to flex all the much. There are thousands of games and apps on the Oculus store at the time of launch.
How Does The Go VR Look And Feel?
If you are familiar with the Google Daydream Headset, you will be right at home here. The Oculus Go VR has a clean design and has breathable fabrics which make using it for an extended period a non-issue. To make things comfier, the headset has a soft elastic strap which is also wide. You will definitely be able to consume VR content for a prolonged period with this headset, not that I recommend you do so.
Where Can I Buy Oculus Go And For How Much?
The Oculus Go is available for purchase as I write this article. You can get the Oculus Go for $199 for the 32GB variant and $249 for the 64GB variant. Oculus is selling the Go directly off their website, but you can also get it from either Amazon or BestBuy.
Facebook certainly delivered their promise with the Oculus Go- A perfect VR headset for the masses. When are you getting yours?
