With the latest Civic, it was only a matter of time before Honda decided to revise their midsize Accord sedan as well. Today, they’ve released a concept sketch showcasing the 10th generation Accord’s aggressive design and unique proportions. Honda claims it will be the fastest, most efficient, premium Honda Accord to date. You’ll be able to check out its global debut in Detroit on July 14, or watch the reveal on Youtube in real time at 11:00 a.m. EDT, July 14.
Honda is still keeping most of the details under wraps, but we do know a couple of things about the new 2018 Accord. For starters, Honda has lined up three different engine options, two of which are completely bespoke, i.e. brand-new. The turbocharged, fuel-injected units will be mated to a 10-speed auto, the older CVT or a six-speed manual, depending on the trim and the engine in question. The CVT will remain the usual weapon of choice for anyone interested in economy, but we suspect both the manual and the 10-speed auto will be a lot more fun regarding driver involvement.
The Honda Accord has held the midsize sedan best-selling spot in America for the last four years. In 2017 alone, based on sale figures from the first three months, it’s the top-selling car in its segment and the second best-selling passenger car overall, surpassed only by its smaller sibling, the Honda Civic. The Accord is also the unrivaled Car and Driver winner, having claimed their coveted 10Best award for a staggering 31 times. Over 13 million Accords have been sold in the U.S. alone, 11 million of which were made in the Ohio plant.
If the new Honda Accord is to continue that tradition and offer customers something fun, exciting and economical, it’s going to have to do a lot more than juts look mean. Knowing Honda though, it’s highly likely they’ve managed to outdo themselves again. We’ll report back with more after the world debut. You can tune in yourself and watch it over at:
