Instagram For Windows Phone Available For Download In Beta
Windows Phone users finally got their hands on the Instagram app in Beta form yesterday at around 2 pm. Looks like only Windows Phone 8 users will be able to use the app so far. Microsoft is trying to push more developers to generate apps for its ecosystem, with the addition of Instagram being a small notch under the giant’s belt. It’s great to see that the Windows phone platform is very slowly generating a bit of momentum with developers.
Instagram for Windows Phone is of course a free downloadable app, that is going to be missing a few key features such as, not having the ability to video capture and uploading, along with photo tagging. Instagram plans to add these features, in later updates for the app as the app is still in its Beta form. Instagram told The Verge
We’re not finished, and our team will continue developing the Windows Phone app to keep releasing features and bringing you the best Instagram possible
Instagram for Windows Phone 8 will desperately need these key features quickly in the next update, as Instagram for Android and iOS devices are already ahead of the game with great features that are already integrated right out the box. If Microsoft wants its customers, and the rest of the world to take its platform seriously, then they should be making sure that the apps that are released for its Windows Phones are up to standard and not lacking key features that are already available on other mobile operating systems. It’s never a great idea to just rush a product out, just for the sake of having it available. We would have rather seen Instagram and Microsoft take more time in developing a finished product that users can feel great about having. At least the in-app image capture feature is included that allows you to take a photo without leaving the app, while choosing your filter to edit the photo.
