The 2019 Apple Event was an interesting one. Some announcements were great while a few of them were meh! Apple not only announced products but also a few interesting services. So, let’s get into it.
List Of Products Announced In The Apple September 2019 Keynote
- iPhone 11
- iPhone 11 Pro
- iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPad 10.2 (7th Generation)
- Apple Watch Series 5
List Of Services Announced In The Apple September 2019 Keynote
- Apple Arcade
- Apple TV+
The September Apple event is essentially an iPhone launch event. But over the years, Apple has been announcing a lot more than just the new iPhones.
And to be completely honest, it’s not the iPhone announcement that gets the audience excited- it’s everything else. The iPhones are heavily leaked months before release and there’s really not much to anticipate about its launch.
The iPhone 11, 11 Pro And 11 Pro Max
The iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max are the successors to the iPhone XR, XS, and the XS Max respectively. This year, Apple didn’t change the iPhone too much in terms of design.
The major changes this year are:
- Faster and more efficient A13 Bionic Chip
- Triple Rear Camera for the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max; Dual Rear Camera for iPhone 11
- Increase in battery endurance in all the iPhone models
- Deletion of 3D Touch
- Super Retina XDR Display for iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
- Improved water-resistance for iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
- New color options
As you can already tell, the new iPhones aren’t a huge departure from its predecessors. If you already own the iPhone XS or even the iPhone X, there’s really no reason for you to upgrade.
The 7th Generation iPad 10.2
The new iPad 10.2 is larger than the iPad 9.7. It houses a larger 10.2-inch Retina Display and the bezels aren’t any smaller.
But Apple did this purposefully.
The new budget iPad is the same size as the iPad Air 10.5 and the iPad Pro 10.5 (2017) and hence has support for Apple’s excellent Smart Keyboard.
Just like the iPad Air and the iPad Pro, it has a smart connector at one of its sides which lets you connect the Smart Keyboard to the iPad.
Apart from having a larger screen and inclusion of smart connector, there’s no other change worth talking about. The new iPad uses the same old Apple A10 fusion chip which debuted with the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus.
The Apple Watch Series 5
Also, unlike the Series 4, Series 5 can be had with a Ceramic housing option.
The display has received an update too. For the first time, you can have an always-on display on the Apple Watch. Series 5 uses a new technology screen which can refresh as low as once a second. This allows for very lower power consumption.
Just like its predecessor, the Apple Watch Series 5 has 18-hour battery life.
Apple Arcade is Apple’s game subscription service which lets you play over 100 new Apple-exclusive games for just $4.99. The service will work across Apple devices including the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, iPad, and Apple TV.
The service can be activated on the App Store where it has its own dedicated tab. All the games on Apple Arcade will be ad-free, as expected.
One single subscription allows access to the Apple Arcade for up to six family member through Family Sharing.
Apple TV+ is Apple’s answer to HBO+ and Netflix. It is a video/movie streaming service which lets you stream movies, TV shows, and documentaries for just $4.99/month.
You will need to install the Apple TV app on your Mac or iPadOS or iOS device to use the service.
Also, if you buy an iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Apple TV or a Mac now, you will get one year Apple TV+ for free.
The 2019 Apple event was overall good but there were very few surprises. It would have been great if Apple revealed the much-anticipated 16-inch MacBook Pro at the event.
